Yesterday afternoon I was in a work meeting and when I returned to my desk I found about 30 plastic pink flamingos in my office! Some were even wearing feather boas, some with Hawaiian leis. They were stuffed in the kleenex box, my pen holders, they were everywhere! This was a funny joke to play on the birthday girl.
I quickly figured out who was behind this crazy flocking. He explains to me that this is quite a common thing to do in West Seattle to people's yards. It's actually a fund raiser: You call up a woman who will go in the middle of the night and put hundreds of these flamingos in the yard of the person you request. Then to have it cleaned up you can pay her to come collect all the lawn ornaments. All the money goes to a fund to rescue animals. I love it!
This reminds me of something they did in college at UW. The fraternity Sigma Chi used to do this to a the soritiy across the street from them, Kappas. Except instead of flamingos they used election signs. There wouldn't be a piece of lawn without a stake in it. Imagine your lawn with hundreds of signs! Then the guys would come take them down for a fee that would support the fraternity's philanthropy.
I must say I like the flamingos better.
So you better watch out. You might be the next person to get Flocked!

funny. happy birthday!
Happy (belated) birthday! And I'm sure you didn't hear any comments about getting a good flocking, and how you got flocked for your birthday, and what a flocking day it was, etc ad nauseum.
LOL - that's awesome!
